American House Spider

Look in any nook or cranny on the outside of your house and you will most likely find an American House Spider (Parasteatoda tepidariorum).

These spiders build disorganized webs in the secluded corners of doors and windows.  They use their webs to catch a variety of small insects.  They have very poor "vision", detecting prey through vibrations in the web.

Females produce large numbers of eggs sacs.  Each containing up to 400 eggs.  Several females may nest in the same location

While American House Spiders will bite if disturbed, they are actually quite passive and will actually tolerate being handled with care.
