Eastern Bluebird

The Eastern Bluebird (Sialia sialis) is a member of the thrush family of birds.  It is a common visitor to the northeastern United States during the summer months.

The male bluebird has the distinctive blue head and back with a rusty brown chest.  The females tend to have a more subdued gray coloring with blue-tinged wings.

Bluebirds tend to perch upon posts, low tree branches and wires located at the edges of open areas.  They drop to the ground to collect insects, returning to their previous perch.
