Devil's Paintbrush

The color palette of the woods has become mostly shades of green.  To come upon a cluster of Devil's Paintbrush (Hieracium aurantiacum) almost hurts the eyes!

It also goes by the name Orange Hawkweed.  Interestingly, that name was given by the Roman naturalist Pliny who proposed that the flowers were eaten by hawks to strengthen their eyesight.
