Bull Thistle

The Bull Thistle (Cirsium vulgare) is native to Europe, Asia and Africa.  It has now naturalized to most of the world.  It tends to grow in disturbed soils.

If one word could describe Bull Thistle, it would be spiny.  It has spines on its stems, leaves and flowers.

Bull Thistle flowers are rich sources of nectar for pollinators.  And, it is a rich source of seed for birds such as the Goldfinch.

It tends to proliferate as its fluffy seeds are dispersed by the wind and it is left untouched by most grazing wild and domesticated animals.
