Viper's Bugloss

Viper's Bugloss (Echium vulgare), also known as Blueweed, is an introduced species from Europe and Asia.

Its peculiar name is derived from the shape of its flower, that looks like a viper's head.  And, the roughness of its leaves, that supposedly resembles a ox tongue (known as a bugloss).

While an introduced species, it is actually one of the best plants for bees.  It repeatedly blooms from early summer to late autumn and its flowers produce nectar throughout the day.  It is very hardy and will continue to produce blooms and nectar during periods of drought.
